Il Museo della Collegiata di Empoli è uno dei musei ecclesiastici di fondazione più antica, almeno in Toscana; più antico del Museo dell’Opera del Duomo di Firenze inaugurato nel 1891, più antico anche del Museo della Cattedrale di Siena, istituito nel 1870. Inoltre esso vide la luce in un momento storico che a tutto potrebbe far pensare fuorché ad interventi museografici o di tutela artistica. La nascita del Museo della Collegiata di Empoli si colloca infatti nei mesi a cavallo fra il 1859 e il 1860, nel pieno dei moti unitari e della guerra per l’indipendenza nazionale.

The Museum of the Collegiate of Empoli is one of the oldest ecclesiastical museums of Trustees, at least in Tuscany, earliest of the Museum dell’Opera del Duomo in Florence opened in 1891, also the oldest museum of the Cathedral of Siena, founded in 1870. In addition, it saw the light in a historical moment that might suggest to everyone except to protect artistic or museological interventions. The Birth of the Museum of Collegiate Empoli takes place in the months straddling 1859 and 1860, the height of the motion unit and the war for national independence. Il Museo Diocesano di Arezzo è stato fondato nel 1963. E’ di proprietà del Capitolo della Cattedrale, che ha costituito con il fine di “conservare, raccogliere e illustrare opere d’arte, oggetti, cimeli ecc. a carattere religioso della Diocesi di Arezzo” (Regolamento del Museo, 1971). Vi si trova esposta una ricca scelta di pitture, sculture, oggetti di oreficeria sacra, codici e paramenti liturgici di epoca compresa fra il XII secolo e la fine dell’Ottocento, provenienti dal Duomo e da vari edifici ubicati nel territorio Diocesano. Attualmente la ricca collezione si trova distribuita tra cinque sale dell’area della canonica situata sopra la sagrestia. Nella prima è esposto materiale che va dal XII secolo al primo Quattrocento, con due importanti gruppi ben distinti, quello dei tre rari Crocifissi lignei di epoca romanica provenienti dal Duomo e il nucleo di pitture della scuola aretina del Trecento. Tra queste sono da segnalare una deliziosa tavola di Andrea di Nerio e due affreschi di Spinello Aretino. La terza sala riunisce opere in prevalenza del Quattrocento e del primo Cinquecento, fra cui una tavola e un rinomato affresco cn San Girolamo penitente di Bartolomeo della Gatta, una predella della bottega di Luca Signorelli, dipinti di Lorentino d’Andrea, Domenico Pecori e Niccolò Soggi. La terza sala, relativa al Cinquecento, è quasi interamente dedicata a dipinti del grande pittore, architetto e storiografo aretino Giorgio Vasari. La visita termina con tre dipinti dell’aretino Pietro Benvenuti, insigne esponente della cultura artistica della Toscana del Primo Ottocento. “Annunciazione” – Andrea di Nerio – Tavola (1331 – 1369) Questa affascinante opera proveniente dal san Marco del Murello mostra in successione, secondo l’usanza medioevale diversi momenti dell’evento. In alto il Padre Eterno affida la missione all’arcangelo Gabriele consegnandogli la palma che qui allude alla vittoria dell’eletta; l’angelo vola al cospetto di Maria e si compie il mistero dell’Incarnazione simboleggiato dalla singolare figurina del bimbo portato in volo verso la Vergine dai cherubini al seguito della colomba dello Spirito Santo. L’opera porta la scritta ANDREAF (ecit) importante pittore aretino di cui si hanno notizie dal 1331 al 1369.

The Diocesan Museum of Arezzo was founded in 1963. It is the property of the cathedral chapter, which was to “preserve, collect and discuss works of art, objects, memorabilia etc. religious of the Diocese of Arezzo “(Regulation of the Museum, 1971). There is exposed a rich selection of paintings, sculptures, goldsmiths ‘ sacred codes and liturgical times between the 12th century and the end of the 19th century, from the Duomo and from various buildings located in the Diocesan territory. Currently the rich collection is distributed among five halls of canonical area located above the sacristy. The first is exposed material ranging from the 12th century to the first 400, with two important distinct groups, the one of three rare Romanesque wood Crucifixes from the Duomo and the nucleus of the school’s paintings of three hundred Arezzo. Among these are a delicious plate of Andrea di Nerio and two frescos by Spinello Aretino. The third Hall brings together works mainly of 15th and early 16th century, including a table and a renowned cn San Girolamo penitent fresco of Bartolomeo della Gatta, a predella of the bottega di Luca Signorelli, paintings by Lorentino d’Andrea, Domenico Pecori and Niccolò Soggi. The third room on the 16th century, is almost entirely devoted to paintings of the great painter, architect and historian Giorgio Vasari aretino. Il Museo di San Giovanni Valdarno offre una piccola, ma significativa raccolta di dipinti appartenenti per lo più alla civiltà artistica del Quattrocento fiorentino a testimonianza dello stretto legame, nell’ambito figurativo, che Firenze ebbe con il centro valdarnese. Quest’ultimo, a sua volta, diede un contributo importante allo sviluppo dell’arte fiorentina, soprattutto come patria di Masaccio, ma anche dello Scheggia, di Mariotto di Cristofano, e qualche secolo dopo, alle soglie del Seicento, di Giovanni Mannozzi, meglio conosciuto come Giovanni da San Giovanni.

Tra numerosi piccoli nuclei d’arte sacra visibili presso le parrocchie della Valdinievole, quello di Buggiano è uno dei più ricchi e interessanti. Aperto nel 1960, espone tessuto, oreficerie liturgiche e arredi sacri, tutti provenienti dall’Attigua Pieve romanica della madonna della Salute e di San Niccolao.
