FORTEZZAFORTRESS

Its birth and its history is closely linked to the village of kicks, which lies at the heart of the valley below. Kicks has always been deeply tied to the vicissitudes of nearby and powerful city of Pisa and in all the wars that the groundswell. The documented history of settlements in the area from 780. The territory was defended since that time by a stronghold situated in place of the future fortress, an ideal position to control the River Arno and its plain, at the time still marshy, down to the sea. For this reason, the fortress of Wart has always been an almost impregnable stronghold for all armies and the powers concerned the conquest of the surrounding territory. There are many famous and bloody battles fought in calcesano: in 1288 between Guelphs pisani and army lucchese, in 1328 German invasion of Louis of Bavaria, in 1363 invasion Fiorentina, in 1369 invasion of the troops of Charles IV of Bohemia and in 1375 as English John Hawkwood (Giovanni Acuto). In 1402 Pisa was purchased by the Florentines and the fortress of Wart, last bastion of resistance, was captured and destroyed to prevent it from returning to be a threat. In 1503 Pisa rose up again and the war became again the fortress. Florentine troops were forced to regain back the Wart, focus of enemy resistance. The yield occurred, not after long and bloody clashes, on 18 June of that year and was the final blow to hopes of independence Pisane, in fact the city capitulated in Florentine hands after six years. The present appearance of the fortress that is derived from work performed after these events to strengthen the war. The Wart, despite being a very special work, is considered a product of compromise and uneven because of the different phases and different authors that took care of the building. The first thing that leaps out is that its walls can be considered one of the few examples of bastionatura performed with loose stones instead of the typical red bricks used at the time for these actions and present here essentially cylindrical tower in the southwest. The stones are used only for cutting corners and in small quantities. In general, we note that the entire complex was built with little care and respect without the usual proportions, with an excessive hurry due to the need to make this key point in order to defend the final submission of Pisa.

CHIESA PIEVANA DI SAN GIOVANNI BATTISTAPARISH CHURCH OF SAN GIOVANNI

All’interno, a tre navate decorate con affreschi di Pietro Giarrè, si conserva la venerata scultura lignea della “Madonna con Bambino”, datata 1369, nota come “Madonna del Monte” perché rinvenuta tra le impervie grotte che sovrastano Panicale.chiesas.giovanni-butiCounted in 1276 between the parishes of the diocese of Pisa, the church has changed and expanded over the centuries until the early twentieth-century reconstructions performed on a design by R. CASTELLOCASTLE

Il borgo antico, che si sviluppa alle spalle di Castel Tonini, mantiene ancora numerose strade ed edifici che riportano all’antica atmosfera medievale, nonostante le inevitabili modifiche e ristrutturazioni subite nel corso del tempo.castellotonini-butiCastel Tonini is the fortification overlooking and protecting the ancient village of Buti, located on the right bank of the River Great, this is still the gateway to the country, although the walls encircling the old town are now gone.

Il prospetto posteriore è caratterizzato da una scala a doppia rampa che scende fino alla strada.villa-bellavista-buggianoBuilt by the Marquis Francesco Feroni designed by Antonio Ferri towards the end of ‘600. The work of building the villa itself, that the intention of the contracting authority should reflect the richness and reached its high social status, was entrusted to Antonio Maria Ferri, who had a project in the sober and solemn style of Florentine baroque. The project was completed in 1699, by which time the developer was already dead, but his son Fabio thrilled with the result, the architect commissioned to build a chapel next to the villa. The area of farms but was affected by the work of land reclamation and closed at the end of the eighteenth century the surrounding, which made the lands around the villa subject to floods and standing water: Feroni had to sell all farms, while the villa but only kept until 1829, when they decided to resell it. In 1939 he was purchased by the Ministry of Internal Affairs Directorate-General of Anticendi Services that financed the construction and restoration to place a convalescent home for firefighters dedicated to Tullio Barons. Near Cologne was also created a elioterapica for children of Fire. With the passage of the deal was for a short time before German military hospital and then ally. The building is large with four massive angular towers and a balcony that spans across the outer perimeter of the first floor level and another similar but shorter on the cornice. The Windows are profiled cornices pietra serena, the same material used in the profiles of the corner towers, in contrast with the white of the plaster.
