zonaarcheologica.soranaIn places Vitozza. The rocky Vitozza, inhabited from the twelfth to the eighteenth century, of course, is defended along the west side, north-west and north-east by steep cliffs. In medieval times, at the side of access to the south-west, was fitted with a fortress and walls of tufa, which is still visible. On the plateau are preserved the remains of a church hall with an apse. The settlement consists of caves housing more rooms, arranged on different levels and fully excavated in bedrock. The caves (there are about 180) are connected by ladders and have long been used as houses, warehouses or shelter for animals. On the slopes of the rise where the medieval fortress is set in the north-west and along the shores of the river Paradiso, open the “columbarium” cubby holes with the typical square or pointed to the breeding of pigeons. The route is driven by explanatory panels arranged in front of more complex structures.

In cambio, pero’, i pastori una volta all’anno dovevano catturare vivo un orso (allora se ne trovavano molti sui contrafforti dell’Appennino) e condurlo al Duca a Modena, cosa estremamente rischiosa, che e’ divenuta sinonimo di operazione assai pericolosa.lagovicaglia.sillanoLake Vicaglia and ‘a reservoir created by Enel in the town of Silla, Alta Garfagnana, in the Natural Park dell’Orecchiella: This is a charming place, accessible by car through a small tunnel that leads directly on the dam. The waters come from the nearby Apennines, are cool in summer and rich brown trout: the channeled water from the dam to rush into the underlying Enel Soraggio crossing the mountain through some channels carved into the rock. Just at the point where a channel emerges from the rock is an incredible bridge over a canyion grossed between high rock walls: it runs in the bottom of the Serchio Soraggio that, by joining the Serchio of Dalli, from ‘the source of Serchio Sillano, a of the two branches that give rise to Serchio true location ‘Piazza al Serchio. The lake and ‘cashed at the foot of the Tuscan – Emilian, in an area of unspoilt beauty of the valley and Soraggio’ still alive told of how Menara Bear in Modena, when talking about a very dangerous thing. In fact, the pastors of the territory of Soraggio, for many centuries of the Este of Ferrara, had been granted by the Duke of Modena the right ‘to be able to graze their sheep across the Apennines, in the geographical territory of Emilia. In return, however, ‘once a year the shepherds had to catch a live bear (then if they were many in the foothills of the Apennines) and bring it to the Duke of Modena, which is extremely risky, and that’ become synonymous with the very dangerous operation .

SANTA MARIA IN CASTELLOSANTA MARIA IN CASTLE

Fra le tele sei-settecentesche, da notare l’Adorazione dei Magi di Sigismondo Coccapani (1617).santamariaincastello.signaIt has been reported as 978, when it was donated by the Countess Willa, mother of the Marquis of Tuscany, Ugo, the Badia Fiorentina. The nineteenth-century restorations have profoundly changed both the facade and the interior trim. In the thirteenth century the walls were wrapped by a series of frescoes that tell the stories of the Virgin and Christ. There remain some tracks in the left wall and the panel with the Crucifixion in the apse. There have been placed on the small Madonna of Humility to the beginning of the fifteenth century Florentine school, and St. Catherine of Alexandria that the Master of Signa had originally painted the adjacent Crucifixion. Among the paintings seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, note the Adoration of the Magi Coccapani Sigismondo (1617)
