ROCCA NUOVANEW CASTLE

roccanuova.

Serravalle_pistoiese02La Rocca called the “New” is the opposition of the other rock, known as “Old” original nucleus of the castle of Serravalle Pistoiese which is part of the Lombard tower and bell tower, so called because now transformed into a bell tower of the church of S. Stephen in the oldest part of the country. The story of the “New Fortress” or “Rock of Castruccio” stems from the facts of war between the towns of Lucca and Florence and their allies among the city of Pistoia.Dopo have raided and conquered many of the castles of the mountain and created damage in the plains near Pistoiese the city, wanted attempting conquista.Ma finding it very strong in its mighty walls and determined to resist the eventual siege, the alliance Fiorentina – Lucchese turned his army against the castle of Serravalle Pistoiese.Questo was one of the most important Strategy for the municipality and Pistoiese thorn in the side of their forces. It had recently been reinforced by Pistoia, in view of this warlike event, more than three hundred of the best men of Pistoia as well as other mercenaries from Bologna, is spoken by about 500 archers, was also well stocked with provisions and arms to withstand a siege, or take damage in enemy territory. The enemy army is so divided into three sections: the command of the Lucchese Marchese Morello Malaspina, then lord of Lucca (And a great master of all allied forces) is located at the slope of the hill near Spedaletto the country, while another was stationed at the castle of Castellina so that from there you could see what was done by Serravalle. The Florentines put their own field around the castle by building a fence all around to make sure that whoever was inside could not get out of the ambush to be fulfilled. Once you place the field began to pull with the trebuchets (catapults) throwing rocks day and night to sfiancare besieged them. This lasted about three months, when supplies began to dry inside the castle is assembled a board and was thus decided to send overnight to nascosco through secret passages under the castle, a messenger to ask for reinforcements to the town of Pistoia Pistoia.I , warned when it happens in the castle, came out in force trying to break the siege going in part to meet the Florentine forces and partly to the field of Castellina Lucca. Seen any aid that came from Pistoia Serravallini I took courage and vigor and opened the doors to help out in 400 tanks to destroy the fence and the enemy camp by joining forces Pistoia. There was a tough battle, but despite the force of Pistoia Serravallini and eventually could not resist the force of the multitude and Fiorentina were forced to retreat, leaving many dead on the battlefield. The Pistoia who were at Castellina in beating Lucchesi, when they saw that their people had been defeated in Serravalle and gave to escape quickly retreated and returned to their city, leaving the castle at the mercy of nemici.I Fiorentini, strengthened by defeat imposed on those of Pistoia, with assault with great vigor gave Mangani and Trabucchi heavily day and night fighting. Those inside the castle and defeated and abandoned so conspicuous absence of anything to eat, at least they think they can save their people and asked to speak with the Marquis Moroello. The Marquis was made and accepted advice. Harmony so that all soldiers and Pistoia Serravalle were taken prisoner and taken in chains to Lucca. The other residents were left free but under oath of submission to the Lucchese, and the mercenaries were left free to return to his land. Additionally, after further agreement between Florence and Lucca was determined that the castle of Serravalle was subjected to the jurisdiction of Lucca. Then came the New Fortress, around the year 1302, built by Lucchesi to strengthen the castle of Serravalle and control the population of which they did not trust, having the fear that once the bulk of the troops left, they would be Rejoice again to return under the jurisdiction of Pistoia. The fortress was equipped with strong, thick walls with interior walkways and observation towers (still visible nda) and several high watchtowers. In addition, a thick wall was placed to divide the new from the old fortress and the only point of connection between them consisted of a single port. Inside, was dug a large cistern for rainwater, which is useful in case of siege, which continued right up to the highest tower. To reaffirm its domain, the towers were built of limestone carved from territories Lucchesi. When we were in Lucca power struggles, there were several sequences of their masters: they prevailed, particularly a more seasoned, well-supported and politically powerful, such Castruccio Castracani, then later became a great and famous leader of Italy at that time. The New Fortress of Serravalle then assumed the name of the Lord, who, failing to understand the strategic importance of this castle as a base for its expansionist aims to the detriment of Pistoia and Florence, it reinforced its structure and making it even more impressive equipped with a large and well-trained soldiers of its garrison.

CASTELLOCASTLE

The castle of Vinacciano existed long before the 998 is evidenced by the qualification that Otto III on February 25 of that year he sent to the bishop of the Diocese of Pistoia Anthony, who had feudal and judicial authority on this earth, claiming to take the Curtem Vinathianam under his protection. In 1221 the fort became property of Vinacciano the town of Pistoia, after a debate Court ruling in his favor, made by the legal imperial Everardo of Lutra. This castle suffered the same fate of its neighbors, especially in the fourteenth century, when the Uguccione Faggiola, then took office ladies in Lucca, waged war against the city of Pistoia. With his army and escaped the white part of Pistoia and the Ghibellines, conquered strongholds of Serravalle, Castellina, and Casore Marliana and finally to Vinacciano, installing his soldiers and forcing the inhabitants to participate in decision-Pistoia. However Uguccione failed in his aim, even after bribing soldiers with some money from the city of Pistoia were to open the doors, since they were discovered and Uguccione not rest ‘to withdraw all fury. The strategic importance of the castle of Vinacciano is confirmed again in the year 1318, when the Lucchese turned their army once again against the city of Pistoia. After having subjected the nearby castles, who surrendered to the great power of his army, lord of Lucca Castruccio 2 January 1318 he arrived in the lands of Vinacciano what else he could do but surrender to his will. In 1322 after the people of Lucca and Pistoia began returning to their city went from Vinacciano fortifying and settling his soldiers.

POZZO DEL PALAZZO MEDICEOSHAFT MEDICEO PALACE

PALAZZO MEDICEOMEDICEO PALACE

I between 1560 and 1564, designed by an unknown architect, is attributed by some to Bartolomeo Ammannati, others to the young Bernardo Buontalenti (see some similarities with the villa of Artimino). The area of Seravezza was of great strategic importance to the possession of Versilia: disputed for centuries between the Republics of Pisa, Lucca, Genoa and Florence itself, with the advent of the Medici Grand Ducal Government (1513), Cosimo was concerned as soon as possible to put a tangible outpost of his domain, a boundary point. The villa was in fact necessary to become a military defense, as is also seen by its solid and compact like a fortress with sharp edges and slits on the ground floor. The Villa Seravezza, lunette by Giusto Utens, Museum of Florence as it was not this penalizes the size of the stately home and leisure, as you can see by the bezel of the Museum Utens Just as he was surveying the Florence of Florence, with the extensive forests in which they hunted, an Italian garden and a geometric garden, a chapel and a building used as stables. Furthermore, the nearby river bank gave Vezza coolness, making the holiday enjoyable especially during summer months, when he was a regular destination for a stay of the various characters of the Medici court. Among the guests who spent long periods particularly remember the second wife of Francesco I de ‘Medici, Bianca Cappello, and Christine of Lorraine, who resided there for long periods after being left a widow of Ferdinand I. The area of Seravezza had another important strategic feature, which was the proximity to quarries and mines that Cosimo I wanted to develop. The quarries of marble and silver had long been inactive, when the Grand Duke gave new impetus to mining, with the discovery of lines of silver lead and, since 1563, the marble “mixed” also called “peach blossom” or “Breccia Seravezza, “which became very popular for its value. Cosimo, the villa Seravezza had the opportunity to closely monitor the mining activities, which he himself had raised. The house passed to Lorraine with the extinction of the Medici family. Grand Duke Peter Leopold to supply part of the premises for warehouses and administrative offices of an ironworks, still visible at the side of the building, built around 1786 along the river Ruosina. In 1835, the ironworks closed, the house be returned to place of residence of the grand ducal family. It then passed to the Italian State in 1864 and was donated to the town of Seravezza that, having used the building as a prison in the first instance, it recovered and used later as Town Hall until 1966. Today it houses as well as the Museum of Work and Popular Traditions of Historical Versilia, the municipal library, archives and historical exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.

PIEVEABBEY

The parish of Azzano is in an enviable panoramic position, among the marble quarries and the sea. Very old, dating back to before the year one thousand, was rebuilt in the twelfth century and in 1299 became the parish church at the behest of the Bishop of Luni. The exterior is made of marble, with a frame that runs around the roof added in the sixteenth century. At the same time, when Michelangelo was in these places, dates back to the Ionic portico, the canopy and two side aisles. The rose was named the “eye of Michelangelo’s” The porch was unfortunately destroyed during the Second World War. The bell tower with four lancet windows at the end, before the eleventh century, is also of marble. The interior has three aisles and Romanesque elements such as vaults and columns with capitals decorated with animal motifs and phytomorphic. For the three sides adorn the spaces marble altars of the seventeenth century and in the right aisle, a ciborium hexagonal carved sixteenth century, also in marble, attributed to Bent. The octagonal pulpit finally belongs to the school Stagio Stagi.

DUOMOCATHEDRAL

Rocchette_di_Fazio.sempronianoPlaces where time has stood still. The system was built by the defensive wall Aldobrandeschi during the thirteenth century, to protect the ancient castle of Aldobrandeschi Rocchette Fazio. The structure was equipped with some of the watchtowers and fortifications of Rocca aldobrandesca, which was completely rebuilt in the XV century by the Sienese. The lower part of the old town of Rocchetta di Fazio, developed from the late Middle Ages, remained devoid of defensive structures of relief because it was never built a wall outside, unlike what happened in other towns in the area. Overall, the architectural complex military experienced periods of sharp decline, both in the late seventeenth century to the end of the next century and recent renovations have allowed the recovery of the defensive system of walls.
The current appearance of the walls of Rocchette Fazio delimit the upper part of the village, occupied by the complex of the medieval castle Aldobrandeschi. The defense system consists of a curtain wall of stone, with some sections having embedded in the walls and other external perimeter of buildings castle, the walls comprises a hexagonal shape and has two round arched doors, one of which is called Castle Gate. Along the way, the walls rise five towers that once held as a watch tower, the highest, sitauata along the eastern side of the building perimeter, aldorandesca is part of the fortress, built along this stretch of the defensive system.

TEMPIO DELLA MADONNA DELLA CARITA´TEMPLE OF OUR LADY OF CHARITY ‘

The building was built at the end of the sixteenth century after a disastrous famine, but its origin, as well as the popular religion, is to be linked with the phenomenon of building the large number of churches dedicated to the Marian cult movement determined by the Counter , who had starred in the Tuscan Grand Duke Ferdinand I. “In memory of the community, the church of Our Lady of Charity, is mentioned for the first time in 1593, when there are various resolutions of the Council in favor of the factory that was to be begun as early as 1588. On 3 October of that year he was made the proposal by the Council, to send to grand.ssa M. Christina of Lorraine, prayer so concedesse to employ two hundred silver plates in favor of the factory, to be taken from the overlaps of the revenue of the community. In 1595, the building had to be, if not completely finished, already well under way as this was a chaplain assigned all’officiatura, but still on the board of August 29, 1599 is that “the proposal was made on an application made on behalf of Members of the Madonna above the factory, for the charity shield overlaps the community for fifty of the agreed benefits to the factory of the same “well received votes fullest. Last time it is mentioned 6 June 1602 with the request to hold a market at the church and the demand to employ a hundred crowns for Tiling And in 1603 it had to be terminataá In memory of the beginning of the seventeenth century.
