In places Cascia. Of the eleventh century. It houses a triptych of Masaccio St. Juvenal. It was built by Matilde di Canossa.

Only a small proportion of plants nineteenth century to the present day has come: already in 1890 of 134 different plant species planted decades before, they were only 37 survivors. Only recently has begun to call home in some of the species lost in a restoration project that enhances the botanical richness of the original project: there are now specimens of Araucaria, Sequoia, thuja, yew, cypress, pine, fir, palm, yucca , oak, maple, Atlantic cedar, cedar of Lebanon, hackberry, ash, juniper, acacia, lime and many plants of interest floriculturale. The park is the largest single group of giant sequoias in Italy, with as many as 57 adult specimens, all over 35 meters.

Home to the Imperial half of the twelfth century. The village of Serre is perched on a hill behind a gap that opens between the valley and Sentino Ombrone. Since ancient times there was dug a travertine of the most valuable today is partly disused quarries. The village of Serre is known for the presence of the old granary, which belonged to the Hospital Santa Maria della Scala. Today, the grange is partly open to visitors and is suggestive of the architectural and historical value. Serre was built around a Byzantine fortress built most probably during the war greek-Gothic (535-553). The castle, along with other works of military engineering, controlled the access routes to the country. He later became a Lombard settlement, and later the residence of the Imperial. Frederick Barbarossa strengthens its defenses, and Federico II appointed him as the family feud Cacciaconti, which took over from 1234. In 1291 the estate was divided: and Fazio Cacciaconti remained the owners of the greenhouses, but the City of Siena already encamped on the required domains. After the battle of Benevento (1266), with the collapse of Hohenstaufen power and the subsequent defeat of the party Ghibellines, the Cacciaconti managed to sustain the greenhouses until 1269, after they stayed on the defensive but in 1271-1272 they were driven from the castle, which fell under the control of Siena. In 1276 the bishop of Cremona, Cacciaconti Cacciaconti, recovered for his grandchildren possession of the castle, but in a few years returned to the city of Siena, but the Imperial Palace exercised his possession the Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala, perhaps as a result of a compromise between the City of Siena and the same Cacciaconti. The Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala had property both inside and outside the city walls. The hospital acquired the remaining ownership of Cacciaconti in 1295, when the heel Ghino tried to take over the castle. John Cacciaconti, the last heir of the family sold the castle keep Serraia and other possessions to the Sienese merchant Giovanni de ‘Rossi in 1373. De ‘Rossi wanted to live there with his wife Ciambragina and install a laboratory. The family of the merchant was later involved in a conspiracy against Siena and expelled from the city in the early fifteenth century. The town, meanwhile, had passed under the suzerainty of Siena. At the beginning of the fourteenth century the town was divided into three terzieri: One-third of the Saint, with a central church of San Lorenzo is a time dedicated to the Archangel Michael, the third and the Third Half of Poggio, which included the area of grange with the keep of the Poggio). In the mid-sixteenth century the country was hit by the war between Florence and Siena: The Count of Santa Fiora, an ally of the Florentines destroyed the Tower of the hill, the imposing tower of the walls. The country remained independent community until 1776.
