SINAGOGA E GHETTO EBRAICOSYNAGOGUE AND JEWISH GHETTO

The present building dates from 1598. The church is located in the area formerly inhabited by the Communities Pitigliano’s Jewish, which is characterized by narrow streets and arches are very striking. Access to the synagogue is through a large arched doorway that leads to a small open courtyard, a stone inside it gives the foundation to Shebbetai jeudi son. The front door is an inscription which reads: And do it for me a Sanctuary and I will dwell among them. Open for me the doors of justice. This is the door [that leads] to the Lord. “Inside the temple are placed furnishings that date back largely to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Over the centuries, the religious building has been restored on several occasions, in 1756, in 1835, when the facade has been enriched with rococo stucco work in 1931 and finally in 1995 by the Municipality of Pitigliano: the latter restoration allowed to recover completely the place of worship and return it to its former glory. The Synagogue and the adjoining museum are open daily (except Saturdays and Jewish holidays). Info: 0564/616006

LA CITTA’ DEI VIVI – LA CITTA’ DEI MORTITHE CITY ‘OF LIVE – THE CITY’ OF THE DEAD

The part about the “city of the living” is part of the archaeological area adjacent to the quarry via the steps and offers a course on the evolution of models of housing in the area, the reconstruction of the hut with an elliptical layout of the Bronze Age final until the Etruscan house. Explanatory panels illustrate the environments that formed the ancient Etruscan house: the kitchen, the room allocated to women’s activities where there is the frame and, finally, the bridal chamber. The transition to the “City of the Dead”, along the ancient route Etruscan rugged and steep, leading to the cemetery, is highlighted by meticulous reconstruction of a tomb in the structure and furnishings. It offers visitors the chance to grasp the ideological aspects related to the funeral and the cult of the dead, ready for the next visit of the necropolis. The educational function of the park is enhanced by the perfect balance that is achieved between the structures of natural man-made element, so charming that visitors transmit strong emotions. CIMITERO ISRAELITICOJEWISH CEMETERY

This is perhaps Castruccio of medieval origin.
