The church, probably dating from the fifth-sixth century, was rebuilt several times. Mentioned for the first time as a church baptismal document dell’857, was consecrated in 1062 by Pope Alexander II, who, according to tradition, before being bishop of Lucca, was the rector of Pescia. Completely rebuilt after the fire in the town in 1281, retains some evidence dating to the thirteenth century. Go back to this time traces of the wall on the left side, the remains dell’ambone adapted to the lectern and the bell tower, which is considered an ancient tower of the walls partly amended by the insertion of single-light, mullioned windows in 1306. The current dome above it is an addition in 1771. The present form dates back to 1684 when, designed by Antonio Maria Ferri, the church is completely rebuilt following the collapse of the dome, which occurred in 1671, which destroyed much of the medieval building. The original plant was replaced as a Latin cross by a structure with a nave and side chapels in the sanctuary, topped by a cupola.

The History of Prehistoric Park begins at the decision of a circus performer, no longer young, to withdraw from life on tour. The site chosen for “stop”, as the jargon, was the town of Peccioli where, with the advice of some relatives, the artist bought two acres of vineyard and built a house for herself and her two sons. With the desire to seek or why not invent a job that could pay off the activities of the roadshow, exhausting but rewarding, the brothers realized that their land that was full of shells, strange footprints, fossilized remains: the concrete signs of an evolution of nature from prehistory to the present that right there, even on their vineyard, had left traces so obvious. From that discovery came the idea to show these little treasures of the past, and all of them with a path of reconstruction that was both scientifically relevant and effective for the teaching style is characterized by evocative, spectacular entertainment and face that is a key distinguishing of the circus. The two brothers, Guido and Paul Ghironi, decided to capitalize on this insight and in a few months had already built the first five prehistoric animals. It was 1977: The Birth of Prehistoric Park Peccioli, thirteen years before the book Jurassic Park by Crichton and sixteen first of the film by Spielberg. Over the years, the two brothers have honed their technique to the construction of models and today the park has twenty replicas including a cute and colorful balls volcano erupting in full-scale reproduction of an Upper Jurassic Brachiosaurus, the largest dinosaur now reconstructed in Europe.
