PIAZZA GRANDEPIAZZA GRANDE

It occupies the top of the hill on which is Montepulciano with its beauty and crown architectural impression of nobility that is received from salendovi città.Vasta, almost square, all surrounded by a strong volume, it has a large and solemn breathing Renaissance. The strong presence of the fourteenth-century Palazzo Comunale, whose frank wheels all in stone, topped with turrets, corbels and topped by a tower with two rows, reminiscent of the Florentine Palazzo della Signoria. The character comes from the sixteenth and Tarugi Contucci two buildings that make up, with the rough facade of the Duomo, the other side of the square. The first, from the beautiful windows in the tabernacle on the main floor is the work of Baldassarre Peruzzi, the second of two orders, with a deep porch ground, the robustness of its forms, accented by columns and the pillars that wrap all the ideals complaint models on which it feeds the imagination of Antonio Sangallo the Elder, to whom we owe a great puteal.

CASTELLOCASTLE

The twelfth century. The origin of the castle Montemignaio be sought from the passage at the ancient Roman road, from Florence, through the Pass of Pelago and Crocevecchia, advancing on the southern side of the mountains of consumption and Secchieta, is connected to the main artery of Casentino ‘Antiquity that led to Arezzo. The old route was still used during the Middle Ages, and this led to the development of the Castle in a dominant position at the top of a spur overlooking the valley of the river Fiana. The first written document proving the existence of the settlement dates back to 1103, a papal bull in which he confirmed to the Bishop of Fiesole authority over the Church of Montemignaio. Even in subsequent years and all the twelfth century the area was mentioned among the domains of the Counts Guidi, following the investiture of Count Guido Guidi lord of the nearby castle of Poppi, a privilege confirmed by a document of Emperor 1191 Henry IV. It was precisely the Drive to erect the castle on the spot, also known as’ Castel Leone ‘or simply’ Castiglione ‘, remained in their possession for the revolt of Castel S. Niccolò with which the inhabitants montemignanesi made common cause against the abuses of’ last descendant of a feudal family, Count Galeoto. In 1440 the inhabitants submitted themselves to the municipality of Florence and were aggregated to the Mount Potesteria Fiorentina. The remains of the walls of the castle still dominate the country. To the right of the main access gate still stands the imposing tower that also served as a bell tower, a second tower on the left, probably the other twin, is now greatly reduced in height. The two towers are joined by the mighty curtain wall in which, as mentioned, opens the door to the beautiful arch that leads into the heart of the castle. As guests enter the left stand the majestic ruins of the palace residence of the counts before and then the Mayor of Florence, and the keep square shape. In the curtain walls is still known as the bulwark of what was once the door that led into the courtyard of the palace. Today, access to a wonderful patio, in the middle of a pretty well needs to be done around the exterior walls of the right of the door. Immediately behind the wheel of the keep still stands, the primitive church of the castle. All together, pretty well kept, is one of the best examples of medieval fortified Tuscan village in the mountains. In the heart of the city there was the church of Santa Maria Assunta, built in the eleventh century. The interior is in Romanesque style, enriched with highly decorated capitals. The whole of the parish of Santa Maria Assunta, you can also see a lot of valuable paintings, including a Madonna with Child “, called” Madonna of the Street “, by Giovanni Toscani (1370-1430), and a” Madonna Enthroned and Child and Four Saints doctors of the Church. ” Of great value is also a terracotta by Benedetto Bouillon (1459-1521) depicting the “Madonna Enthroned with Child and Saints Sebastian and Anthony Abbot.”

VILLA DELL´AMBROGIANAVILLA DELL´AMBROGIANA

The layout of the house is square, with a large courtyard, four corner towers, and projecting the same on both sides like a fortress, and four entry doors. The park surrounding the building was decorated with nymphs, fountains, and a small river port. The grandeur of the complex and the proximity of the two rivers caused serious maintenance problems, until it was decided to allocate it uses more prosaic: the nineteenth century was first transformed into a women’s prison and then in the Criminal Asylum (1888). Today the big teams and the villa is occupied Judicial Psychiatric Hospital, and custodial activities that you currently practice preclude the recovery of the monument for cultural purposes.
