Dell´ XI secolo.

The southern arm of the transept is set by the late bell tower, while from the gallery opened the complex, canonical, which includes a beautiful cloister with two-fourteenth-century brick building. The interior, freed from the plaster and covered by wooden trusses, most showing signs of construction operations.
The tower is called the ‘House of Ugolino’ Montecatini Alto was a castle of Roman origin to 299 meters above sea level and it was this castle which was the seat of the municipality until 1905 gave rise to Montecatini we know today. Initially, the only existing Montecatini was that on the hill, and the baths were not more than a swamp below the castle. But it was known since antiquity that the waters had healing powers of the marsh, in fact the heritage Montecatini was probably already known to the Etruscans and we have documents that talk about going back to 1387, but had never been given enough importance to this phenomenon. In 1530 it was provided to contain the thermal baths in tubs, which had assumed the name “Medici” or “round”, and “blackbirds” or “mange.” The area was still remained unhealthy due to the stagnation of water. Thanks to the Grand Duke Leopold, who built channels to drain the water, the area was also recovered to facilitate the use of the thermal springs of the plant was built so that life began to take a second village, Montecatini Terme, formerly known as ” Bagni di Montecatini “, precisely because they are part of the town of Montecatini Alto. Then in 1905 the towns of “Bagni di Montecatini” and “Castle” were two. In 1940 the “Castle” became a fraction of the Baths now become an international spa. The walls had a circumference of nearly two kilometers with six doors were destroyed in 1554 by Cosimo I de ‘Medici, now remains only the door of “Hamlet.” Of the many towers, some have been built-up area of the bell of the rectory, a part of the remains of a fortress and the last third is that the clock is in front of the Convent of Santa Maria in Ripa (XVI). The latter is the only one left guarded by Benedictine nuns since 1861. The former Augustinian convent of Santa Margherita, now home to a nursing home. The Convent of the Carmelites (1296) was rebuilt in 1764 and today is home to a nursing home. The Oratorio di San Sebastiano with its precious seventeenth-century portico was well preserved. The Church of St. Peter built and designed by Antonio Zannoni, keeps in the columns, the capitals on the facade and the signs of its Roman origin. In the adjacent museum are kept precious furnishings: a Gothic reliquary, the head of the city’s patron saint, Santa Barbara, a wooden Majesty of the twelfth century, a Nativity and a Triumph of Christ, attributed to famous artists like Del Sarto and Orcagna. Montecatini Alto in 1315 enjoyed its most important event, that was the scene when the victim and the defeat of Florence (which was allied with) the work of the Ghibellines Uguccione Faggiola, Mr. and Pisa and Lucca, and Castruccio Castracani. Of this episode were interesting historical documents. Montecatini Alto has a main square is still paved with the stone pavement, ruins, badges, plaques, portals and the former Municipal Court After escaping the destruction of 1554, and then transformed into the “Theater of the Resurrected.”

Risale all’XI secolo e domina il paese
