Già dedicata a sant’Ambrogio, poi a san Giovanni Battista, venne infine intitolata a san Pantaleone.
Dall’892 remembered, is the result of at least three different building phases: an older (north side), an eleventh century (the bottom of the tower) and another dating from the twelfth and thirteenth century, documented in the facade cladding limestone. Already dedicated to Saint Ambrose, then to St. John the Baptist, was finally dedicated to Saint Pantaleone. The name of “propellers” instead derives from the ‘ilex, holm oak Roman name which grows abundantly on the hill. The external back to the tenth or eleventh century (in the most crudely sketched on the north side, with sketches on horizontal mortar regularized with plans of different thickness) and the twelfth-thirteenth century, in so accurate quadratum opus. The plant is a basilica with three naves, divided by arches set on pillars of limestone and ending with a single apse, according to the pattern typical of many churches of Lucca, San Pantaleone also shares with them the proportion studied. The bell tower has been converted from an existing defense structure. Among the works inside the sixteenth-century marble triptych of Riccomanni (Madonna and Child with Saints John the Baptist and Panatleone, about 1470), to which also belong to the scope and stoup marble ciborium, and the fourteenth-century fresco depicting the Madonna and Child . On the site of the rectory had to find the castle is documented in the tenth century as Plebeilice, which were probably related to the retaining wall of the churchyard (demolished with the last renovation) and a circular structure incorporated into the canon, perhaps the basis of a tower. In the square between the parish and the rectory is a bowl made of volcanic rock, perhaps the Roman period, probably due originally to productive activity.

They represent the soul of the artisan center, and the Old Woodworking fits well in this context, giving a perfect witness to the ancient ways of life. The old carpenter’s objective is to document the work, the objects, the meaning of a world (now nearly disappeared) that smacks of hard work, commitment, skill, hard work. Tools, equipment, tools, machines come from a single, an old shop Gerfalco (Montieri) where the end of the 800 to 1990 have followed the family for five generations of carpenters Forgeschi. In simple, basic, old instruments and tools you read the intelligence, imagination and inventiveness of the craftsman, in the early, impressive machines (planer and saw) you can see the transition between the work of all manual and quick and fast imposed by the new technologies of the Industrial Revolution. This workshop-museum wants to show human and cultural values to new generations and is a tribute to the ancient craft of the carpenter and, in general, to that of the craftsman. We thank the Regione Toscana, which has intervened in support of this initiative. Special thanks to Lido Santini (Joiner Massa Marittima) who worked on the stages of material recovery and preparation of the museum. Info 0566/902289 – www.massamarittimamusei.it

Built in medieval times, in which stands the sixteenth-century Chapel of the Priors. It consists of three contiguous buildings: The Tower of the Bargello, once part of the building of Biserno, dating from the thirteenth century, the central body in Sienese Gothic style of the fourteenth century and a third building dated to 1334.
At the center, the canopy is provided a rare window of fourteenth-century Sienese school, with the Redeemer in glory and Stories of San Cerbone. On the left, the monumental baptismal font, made up of two parts: the rectangular tank with Deesis (Christ adored by the Virgin and St. John the Baptist) and Tales of San Cerbone San and rules and all of a piece of travertine and laying on the back of four lionesses. It is rectangular in shape and the longest side measuring 2.73 meters by 0.98 meters. The elevation is in the form of temple (1447). On a square pedestal is placed a statue of St. John the Baptist. The Baptistery, the work of Giroldo by Arogno, in 1267 is revealed by an inscription that surrounds him: “Anno Domini MCCLXVII indic … May Ferruccio quondam Magistri Martini Torniella workman existente de hoc est opus scultum to Magistro Giroldo quondam de Jacobj Cumo ad honorem Dei, et Baptistae Joannis blessed blessed our patrons Cerbonis aliorum et sanctorum Dei. ”
The prospectus of the church reveals the cultural components that are imposed in Massa Marittima in the course of its history: the lower end blind arches decorated with diamonds and circular openings, the gallery above the median and the crowning pediment lead back to the influence of the Romanesque Pisan , while the big Four-arched opening on the crown and three peaks suggest the influence of Siena. Size mt. 58.72 for 18. He divided the form of a Latin cross with three tiers of arches. In front, the central portal with a lintel is flanked by two lions’ heads, which has five panels in the Stories of San Cerbone (early thirteenth century). The three central pillars of the ear drum resting on three figures: a bearded man, a griffin and a horse. The sides, which extends a series of blind arches, reveals a performance of thirteenth-century character of Pisa, also emphasized by two-color decoration of the elevation, on the right side. The bell retains the original character at the bottom, to the bay while the top has been rebuilt in a form very different in the years 1929-1930. The polygonal shape of the lantern is inspired by fifteenth-century. It is high mt. 37.86. The apse, with large pointed windows, has features of Siena and is the result of an expansion of the existing church maybe attributed to Giovanni Pisano, as are attributed to him the three figures in front of the third order as listed above. The interior has a basilica with three naves, with cylindrical columns and piers that end with complex composite capitals. The vaults of the nave are of the second half of the fifteenth century, while the aisles are seventeenth century. To the left of the entrance door, in a fourteenth-century fresco triptych with the Madonna and Child Enthroned with Saints, has placed a fourth-century Roman sarcophagus. On the right of the counter is a series of panels carved in soft stone, dating from the early Middle Ages, according to some, others to the twelfth or thirteenth century. Above the panels, two paintings of the Crucifixion (XIV century) and a History of San Giuliano (XV century).
