ROCCAROCCA

rocca.cecina001_copiaLoc. Cecina di Monsummano –

Antico maniero.

Is relevant in that castle built to guard the southern borders of the municipality of Pistoia, so that in 1335 is shown just as “the castle of Cecina. In all probability it was encircled by a series of building works which, together with the towers had to be the castle structure. Inside, there was located a house where he lived the mayor “dict lands.” In subsequent years, the village will follow the fortunes of Larchwood in general: the castle was assaulted and suffered considerable damage, but we do not have definite information on the effective date. In 1369 there was rumors of rebellion in Cecina, as happened in other places. The political crisis of communism, economic difficulties, the plague of 1340 and 1348, the ensuing famine led to a series of riots that saw the protagonists especially the farmers.
Since the end of the fourteenth century, when Florence to Pistoia is subdued, Cecina, enjoys a degree of autonomy that will continue until the eighteenth century. Subsequently, the institutional framework of the Medici state, are meeting in Cecina Larciano Podesta of Serravalle, which come off in 1774 to be merged with nearby Lamporecchio. In 1897, with the establishment of the town of Larchwood and detachment from Lamporecchio, Cecina was finally inserted as a fraction of the municipal territory larcianese.

Located at 532 meters above sea level, between the woods of the Era, was built around a large boulder, which features limestone fissure appears to have given rise to the name of the structure: rock case means “crushed stone”. Another theory connects the name to Roman Triumvir Crassus, as some authors, emphasizing the Etruscan presence in the area, suggest an interest in the Roman area, dedicated to the extraction of copper. Just to oversee the commercial treaty that led to Montecatini think it was necessary to erect a defensive structure, located in visual communication with the towers surrounding Montevaso, Chianni Terricciola Lajatico Orciatico, Peccioli Miemo. The exact date of construction is unknown, but some authors dating back to Lombard. The first mentioned, however, to 1028 when it was mentioned in some documents as an important border crossing between the diocese of Volterra and the territory of Pisa. At the beginning of the twelfth century the property of their accounts Cadolingi Fucecchio, builders of the Abbey of Morrona, January 26, 1115 was bought by the Bishop of Volterra Ruggieri for 50 pounds, along with half of the estate of Count Uguccione, burdened by debt. Although the church property, the fort was maintained by Pisa until the next century. Following the defeat of the Republic of Pisa in battle of Meloria, which occurred on [6 August] 1284, the people of Lucca and Florence took control of the fort and 22 other castles of the Era. In 1305 the fortress was held by James Gaetani, a favorite of Volterra Pisa: even so, in April 1307, the Elders of Pisa Volterra decreed that could in no way support the castle. Thanks to the influence of the Emperor Charles IV, the structure returned in possession of the diocese of Volterra in 1355, but only for half a century: in 1405, in fact, after a siege by the municipality of Pisa, Captain Peter Gaetani handed it to Florence self-interest, together with the community and Orciatico Lajatico. Rebelled against the domination of Florence in 1431, the fortress was dismantled and restored after three years in retaliation. Since then the company is being abandoned. The fortified complex consists of two separate structures: the fortress and the castle itself. The first, more recently, a wall is located along the boundaries of the hill to surround the second, much older. The structure changes abruptly on the north side, consisting of a rocky overhang. Made up of blocks of limestone mined from nearby quarries and skilfully worked, the walls emerge between the color differences without surrounding rocks, blending seamlessly with the landscape. The fortress, dating from the thirteenth century, is made up of large stone blocks bonded with mortar. This second wall was perhaps intended to accommodate a possible annexation by the village to the castle, but more likely served as a simple reinforcement of defense impregnable on the side of the complex, the southern one. The castle has a massive square shape with the main facade faces south, with no openings and battlements, with slits of a later period. Besides the tower, has two towers connected by walls: a western and an eastern square heptagonal plan. Only the second appears to be today in good condition and accessible, showing visitors a valuable vault. The castle is accessed via a raised entrance located near the west tower and is now seriously damaged. Nothing remains of the buildings interior, only the tower still retains some of its structure, the rest collapsed. The castle lies along a road strerrata car for about 4 km which starts from the village of Lajatico; the signs are clearly visible and it is hard to go wrong. When you reach the small parking lot is still walking path for about 40 minutes along a ridge trail in the woods. The area is visibly disposed of, the information signs are completely ruined and missing the safety of the entire area. We appreciate, however, attempts to make the City of Lajatico visited the area even though it could potentially be further developed especially for educational purposes.

ROCCA PISANAROCCA PISANA

In seguito, la rocca fu venduta a privati e trasformata in un complesso abitativo.roccapisna.isolagiglioThe fortification was built in the early Middle Ages as a possession of the Abbey of Tre Fontane in Rome. During the twelfth century it became the family’s possession Aldobrandeschi who began work to extend the existing structure, which was fully incorporated in the thriving village of Giglio Castello and assumed the characteristic appearance typical of all other fortified strongholds under their control. However, the island was later conquered by Pisani, who did perform additional renovations and expansion is the same rock that the city walls. In the early years of the fifteenth century the Giglio island was conquered by the Medici and became part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, following the fortunes from then on. The fortress was renovated again in the sixteenth and seventeenth century, after temporary periods of decline that followed a few pirate raids which caused damage and disruption on the island. Other articles of regeneration were made during the eighteenth century when the buildings were expanded to house the accommodation of the guards, in addition to the main building, was built in 1762 at the fortress complex of the Chapel of Santa Barbara, which replaced the existing chapel dedicated to Most Holy Trinity. After the unification of Italy the fortified complex was temporarily converted into a prison, then disposed of with the permanent closure occurred in the first half of last century. Later, the castle was sold and converted into a private housing complex.

CHIESA DEL VIVAIOCHURCH OF THE NURSERY

chiesadelvivaio.incisaCon interno barocco e loggiato tardo rinascimentale.

chiesadelvivaio.incisaBy the late Renaissance Baroque interior and porch. In this place, probably by the end of the thirteenth century, there was a chapel dedicated to Our Lady and a convent of nuns who attended the travelers and pilgrims, to whom it has been reported between 1309 and 1387 and then again in 1451 at a pastoral visit. Already at the time was also to be present, as the applicant in the monastic settlements, a fish pond, hence the name of the nursery. In 1510 the old church became a possession of the Observing that, by confirming the ancient vocation of the place and in conformity with customary Franciscan, established a hospice in the premises of the old monastery. On January 6, 1516, during the stop in Incisa of Pope Leo X who was returning from Rome to Florence, the Franciscans ‘incurred by the local population’ asked permission to build a new convent and a church, the pope gave them the right suggesting in honor of the joint Cosimo de ‘Medici, to which they dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian. A few days later, by an act of January 14, 1516 The Castellani family (but from the fifteenth century in Florence located in the area with houses and vast estates) donated the land needed and the family Cambini he was available to finance the company on Monday to Easter of 1516 a cross was planted in the place where he was to rise to the complex and, in parallel, was granted a plenary indulgence (later confirmed by other Medici pope, Clement VII, in 1524), who had visited the shrine. As the work proceeded briskly Jerome White’s increased ownership by giving the Friars the surrounding woods and orchards. On 28 January 1538 (not yet completed its work) so the church was consecrated bishop by the Franciscan Fra ‘Bonaventure in Dalmatia.
