CASTELLOCASTLE

Maintains its elliptical shape of the mold with emergency eccentric and the church. The origin of the castle probably puts us in the early tenth century AD The first document that mentions the existence of Montefioralle is 1085, in its pages it is stated that the German Monaco Tanchelmo founded on its journey between Rome and the Cluny Hill Montefioralle a fortified monastery, Germanic style of military architecture. The origin of the small village of Montefioralle would thus appear that there are cases that say the same town of Greve was born from the people of Montefioralle to find a more appropriate place to sell their goods market. Castle Montefioralle (which is actually more correct to describe a fortified village) in the course of history belonged to the Ricasoli family, the family of Benci, one of Gerardini, and that of Buondelmonti. In the first half of the fourteenth century, the leader Castruccio Castracani conquered by force of the fortified abbey Montefioralle and then change its architecture. In fact, the walls reinforced with a second ring and increase the number of towers. In the following years Montefioralle came under the rule of the Signoria in Florence, then Siena, then again in Florence.

CASTELLOCASTLE

castellopanzano.greveIn località Panzano.

Resti.

Remains. It was razed in 1260 by the Ghibellines. The castle is the most high and the oldest of Panzano. They are still preserved much of the walls surrounding the hill, on both sides, however, have been reduced in height, while in the south-east lacking. They also kept the corner towers of which one was used again as the bell tower of the church of Santa Maria and another still has the equipment to protrude. The internal structure of the castle is simple from the only door, which originally appeared un’antiporta perhaps through one road you reach a small square on which stands the keep. The mold is made from a high tower that rises higher than all other buildings. Inside the castle there are other interesting buildings including the one reported to be located next to the door that has a clear medieval character. All buildings of the castle for the accuracy of the wall and the shape of the arches are structures dating from the twelfth century the castle of Panzano.

BORGO MEDIEVALE DI SEZZATEMEDIEVAL VILLAGE OF SEZZATE

castellodisezzate.greveIn località Strada in Chianti.

It is said that in the twelfth century there will play a famous market remained in people’s memories. The castle was built on the ancient Roman road that ran through the valley of Cintoia and it is mentioned for the first time in 1176, in a document of the abbey of San Cassiano in Montescalari (datum in castro de Sezate). In another document dated 1322 is a rural community mentioned, platea communis to Sezzate in Val di Greve. The castle, in the seventeenth century and the eighteenth century was modified. The walls have nearly circular pattern and is made up of buildings that make up the town. Its tower was the highest point and it remains the base section. In the castle dominated the Bardi family, who exercised the patronage in the neighboring church of San Martino in Sezzate. The castle is an altarpiece depicting the Madonna and Child Jesus seated on a throne, with Saint Anthony Abbot and Saint Lucia, Saint John is kneeling on the steps of the throne and in the foreground you can see the figures of the commissioners in prayer, two members Bardi family. The background shows two views of the landscape: castle Sezzate, before the amendments of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, and perhaps the river Ema. The attribution of the painting is difficult because it has been restored, however an allocation has been made to Sollazzino Giuliano Castellani said.

PARCO MINERARIO NATURALISTICOPARCO MINERARIO NATURALISTICO

A project involving the municipality of Gavorrano in order to protect the most important mining sites now disused mines. Today, the Mining Park of Gavorrano is a piece of a larger project that involves the entire territory of the metalliferous hills: the Technology Park of archaeological metalliferous hills of Grosseto. Within the park are Gavorrano then the towns of Gavorrano and Ravi currently linked by a complex mining (more than a hundred kilometers of tunnels and construction sites) made from the late nineteenth until the 80s of the twentieth century and aimed at the cultivation of the mineral pyrite (iron sulfide). The deposits of pyrite have been grown in slow or irregularly shaped bodies placed at the contact between an intrusive rock quarzomonzonitica (granite) and the cavernous limestone. The main feature of the territory is, therefore, the mining operation which has left traces extraordinarily significant, at European level in the history of technology and mining and social history. The settlement pattern of this area, in fact, has undergone a radical transformation on account of the birth of this new activity. The villages of the summit, the remains of a medieval settlement dynamics, and structures poderili, results of the policy of land reclamation and rural population of the nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century, a strong overlap in the structures related to mining production and villages workers. The activities relating to the use and care of soil are being marginalized than those related to the exploitation of subsoil resources. Today, the historic landscape of the territory of Gavorrano is deeply marked by the presence of numerous castles mining of large open quarries, the remains of ore processing facilities (laver Dorr), landfills, the pillars of the cable cars to transport the mineral and actual mining villages. CHIESA DI SAN GIULIANOCHURCH OF SAN GIULIANO

There is the Madonna del Carmine (marble sculpture, by the Sienese sculptor John D’Agostino 1300). The building was rebuilt in the eighteenth century to replace an old church, built in the same place on the walls of the fortress, as evidenced by the ancient walls of the tower blocks of squared stone. The original medieval church was already existing in the second half of the twelfth century, being mentioned in a papal bull dated 1188, the year that fell within the boundaries of the diocese of Grosseto. The place of worship was to be an autonomous church in Rationes Decimarum the late thirteenth and early fourteenth century, which had as suffragan of the various churches and Caldana Ravi. The apse and the façade, which comes with a tripartite crown with arches, dates back to an intervention of 1927, as can be seen on the lintel. Originally the building was dedicated to St. Gusmé, as stated in the document dated 1321 concerning the burial of Paganello Pannocchieschi. The dedication to St. Julian dates back to 1529.

It has divided into two tiers topped by a pediment which bears at its center the coat of arms Agustini, the patron saint of the church. The interior, a nave, two paintings depicting the Madonna with St. Luke and the Assumption of the Virgin and Child, attributed to Sienese artists of the first half of the seventeenth century, and the fresco of the main altar by Giuseppe Nicola Nasini with San Biagio and St. William in adoration of the Crucified.
