BADIAABBEY

The imposing structure consisted of two more towers, the ‘great tower’ and the ‘tower half’, and a minor (that Pagliaiola), surrounded by a double wall with a set of smaller towers and fortifications all ‘ height of the doors. Today the complex is in ruins, largely due to damage suffered during the Second World War. The ‘great tower’ stands on the site of the previous mold (the base Pietras different from bricks baked in the rest of the building), built the first municipal age (ages 12-13 °), in turn, built up, in all probability, on remains of the oldest castle tower of Cadolingi Salamarzana (11th century). The fort has always played an important role in control of the crossroads and the bridge over the Arno fucecchiese. Guarded by a garrison sent by the dominant city, it was also meant to curb the restless and the local population to quell the unrest antifiorentini that occurs frequently during the fourteenth century. The towers were used, as well as places to watch, even to communicate with nearby cities by signs of fire or smoke, especially with the fortress of San Miniato, where, since 1370, the Vicar of Florence was established with jurisdiction over the medium Valdarno lower.

CASTELLO MALASPINAMALASPINA CASTLE

Telefono 0187/68891.castellomalaspina-fosdinovoTradition has it that you have resided Dante collects original and interesting ornaments, weapons and artefacts. The first evidence of a castle in Fosdinovo dates back to 1084, during which ruled the so-called “Noble Fosdinovo” Erberia combination with whites and, later, the Bishop of Luni. In 1340 this noble faction sells all its privileges in the territory of the Marquis Malaspina family in the person of Spinetta the Great, to whom we owe many extensions of the Rock. Popular tradition has it that Dante and have resided there for visitors if they show the room. E ‘likely to be passed by Dante during his Fosdinovo lunigianesi routes, though perhaps the poet did not stay in the castle as it is today, the result of major renovations since the middle of the fourteenth century. During the modern age throughout the interior of the fort was modified to create a sumptuous palace in the primarily residential. As in many other manors, also seems to get around a Fosdinovo fantasma.Si Aloisia Bianca Maria would be the Marquis Malaspina, who in 15 years fell in love with a young groom. Were useless advice, exhortation and threats of family members to put an end to this affair. After an escape from the convent of S. Croce del Corvo and refusal to marry the noble imposed by parents and relatives groped had no choice but to remove the scandal, killing the young groom and Bianca Maria. Legend has it that Bianca has been walled up with his dog (a symbol of loyalty to the boy loved) and a boar (a symbol of rebellion against the wishes of parents) and since then seems to wander into the castle to let everyone know about the its sad history.
