In località Calcinaio.
In places Calcinaio. Temple of 500. The structure of the church consists of a nave flanked by two side chapels and a transept with a dome at the intersection of the equal arms of the presbytery. Martini designed strictly applying the architectural principles of proportion and perspective dear Renaissance architecture. In the space echoes Alberti, in a project that is not immune to similarities with Brunelleschi, but the drawings of Francesco di Giorgio are absolutely original, to pose one of the highest levels of synthesis of space in the Renaissance. The exterior, though badly damaged by the erosion of the stone, give the visitor the impression of a block that promises impressive with its simple geometric decorations rationality so evident in the interior. The large areas are divided into horizontal and vertical moldings and pillars, and are handled by windows with gables.

Existed before the tenth century. Abbey Fameta (from “oak” oak or gentile) was founded by Benedictine monks pray and work “between the ninth and tenth centuries, and dedicated – as most of the older churches of Christianity – the Virgin Mary, we under the title of the Assumption: “The name of that fair flower I e’er invoke / Morning and evening” (Dante 3, 23, 88). Later, she became the mother of a hundred monasteries and churches in seven dioceses. (Abate, Abbu from Hebrew, meaning “father”). In the sixteenth century, after the parenthesis of the abbots – who, as usual, caused the departure of the Benedictines – were replaced by the Monks Olivetani (Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Siena), and, in 1780, the Diocese of Cortona IPreti secular (and I’m here September 8, 1937).
The twelfth century. It was built on an old Roman fortress of Coreglia that was torn down and rebuilt at the very top of the hill and dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel (Holy which demanded protection of their first victorious battle against the Greeks of 663). The new church occupies the old tower then transformed into a bell tower and has two entrances at the top, reached by stairs. It was originally fitted with a “baptismal font, and early in the thirteenth century through the establishment of a Coreglia Canonica, Castellana was transformed from a church in the parish church. After nearly a century after his consecration, were carried out refurbishment and expansion, the old tower was erected adjacent to and transformed into a bell tower, while the church after being lengthened with a new chapel was dedicated to St. Philip. In the early nineteenth century, the Church of St. Michael underwent further changes, the apse was enlarged and the old sacristy was restored and a new one is built behind the Chapel of St. Philip.
Dell´ VIII secolo. Preromanica.
Dell ‘eighth century. Pre-Romanesque. From the ninth eleventh century have followed three phases of construction, giving the church a distinctive look asymmetric: the first are to be allocated on the left side of the apse and the head of the left aisle, the second with single apse, the head of the apse of the right aisle, the support with the capitals, the arches above the wall facing the inside; the third the right flank. The front shows signs of reworking five-seventeenth century, while the bell tower, built between 1847 and 1856, replaced the fourteenth century. Inside, three aisles, is still legible the old system, no matter how late sixteenth-century fresco decoration of the apse of the Assumption of the Virgin.
Di origine romanica. In località Crespiano.
Of Roman origin. In places Crespo. The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta, which stands alone in the valley of Taverone between Licciana Comano Nardi and is documented for the first time in a bull of Eugenius III in 1143, it was built, however, at first, as evidenced by a plaque at the base the bell tower dating back to 1079 and now visible in the sacristy.
In località Torretta Vecchia.
Old Tower in the locality. The excavation area was performed in the year 1989/1991 by the Cooperative Archaeology of Florence, scientific director of the Archaeological Superintendence of Tuscany and the contribution of the Tyrrhenian Autostrada. The presence of Roman ruins in the area was already known in early 800 Emanuele Repetti that, in his “Historical Dictionary of Physical Geography of Tuscany”, defines these findings as “old mansion, then villa, hotel on the road and now director Maremma, or Emilia Scauri. Towards the end of the nineteenth century and in the years preceding World War II in the same area have been some “exploratory testing” by authorities in the protection of archaeological monuments, as reported by A. Minto (1940). The discovery of these ruins did suggest that in places Torretta Vecchia Turrita as trainers had to be placed along the Via Aemilia Scauri, represented in Peutingeriana (IV, I), copy medieval (twelfth to thirteenth century AD.) Of a paper of ‘Roman Empire. Tabula is represented in the known world in antiquity, with particular attention to the representation of the main roads of the empire and post stations, the distance between a resting place to another. The word derives from the Latin verb manere mansio meaning “stop, stop”, hence the noun Mans takes on the meaning of “place of rest”. The mansiones were located systematically along the road network; sites or resting places were linked to the cursus publicus. An imperial messenger on horseback could cover about 70/80 km per day and this is the distance (indicated to Pliny), which separates two mansiones. These buildings shall perform the functions necessary to host post, where travelers and imperial envoys were dining, spa, a bed for the night, fresh horses and other useful services, a kind of old service station to provide a bit ‘of relief after the hardships of the journey.
