MURAWALLS

mura-casoleinlunigianaDi origine medievale.

The walls of Casole have a shape that resembles a pear, with an extension of the major axis of about 420 meters and a width of about 130. It is going in and out through two doors, which now no longer exist. In some old photographs you can see that in the south, Port Rivellino before it was mined during the Second World War by Nazi troops in an attempt to impede the advance of allied tanks, while the north was named to the Port of Friars. The side walls of the (still largely intact, although incorporated in the home) which looks at the Val d’Elsa has two semicircular towers dating back to 1481 (one now a ruin). They were designed by the great Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini in order to enhance the original defensive structures, of which the Rock is the perfect expression. It stands on the south side of the city walls and currently houses the City of Casole. It was built in 1352 and further strengthened by two unequal towers, square in shape and crowned with battlements Guelph. Very beautiful Gothic-arched portal surmounted by the crest of the archer Senese well preserved on its sides. In the section of wall still intact, characterized by the insertion of horizontal decorative stone in the structure entirely made of bricks, you can recognize the remains of the machicoulis resting on brick corbels shaped like an inverted pyramid. All the southern external borders (which embraced the city walls) of the Rock is gone. The alternation of stone and brick along the perimeter of the building shows many suffered from it from tampering over the centuries. Even today Casole retains the air of a last outpost and emerge wherever the remains of forts and palaces gradually adapted to the needs of men. The set of streets, squares, medieval buildings to make it one of the most charming and best preserved towns – thanks to recent restoration-of Val d’Elsa.

PIEVE DI OFFIANOPARISH OF OFFIANO

The parish is located in a picturesque setting, on a plain surrounded the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines and Apuan Alps. TORRE CIVICATOWN TOWER
