VILLA MEDICEA LA FERDINANDAVILLA MEDICEA LA FERDINANDA

Villa-Mediceaferdinanda-carmignanoIn loc. Artimino.
Villa-Mediceaferdinanda-carmignanoIn loc. CHIESA DI SAN GIUSTOCHURCH OF SAN GIUSTO

Carmignano-GonfaloneIn stile romanico.

Carmignano-GonfaloneIn the Romanesque style. Its origin should be related to an ancient road, the Dark Ages, of the ridge from the river, crossed at the narrowest point (area of Gonfolina), arrived in Pistoia. It would therefore be treated in an old “hospital”, a stopping point for pilgrims until the tower Sant’Alluccio (left only as a name), followed by Hospice of San Baronto. At the same route was perhaps referring to the church of San Martino in Campo, near Artimino. Until the fourteenth century was the rectory, later becoming oratory before being abandoned. After a partial reconstruction of the nineteenth century, was restored after the war, today is entirely readable, revealing an interesting Romanesque building, with architectural influences Cluniac monastic French or otherwise. The simple facade is enlivened by white and green wedges and serpentine marble arches and mullioned window above the portal. Inside the plant is cross Commis single nave covered with a barrel vault, marked by large transverse arches and the chancel, separated with three apses, is raised on a low crypt with small aisles supported by pillars, rebuilt after thirteenth-century collapse.
