ROCCA DI CERBAIAROCCA DI CERBAIA

rocca-di-cerbaia-cantagalloRuderi.

Built by the Counts Alberti with the function of checkpoint on the road to the north, it is said that you went to Dante Alighieri, to ask for shelter after being exiled from Florence. Hospitality, however, was not granted, and – if what you said is true – is the reason that led to Dante’s Inferno set in the Alberti brothers Alexander and Napoleon. After the fifteenth century, the fortress was no longer used, falling apart, and only recently, the municipal entity began its restoration. The visiting tourists can observe, however, the main road in town: just look up to the highest hill and right on top, you see what remains of the building.

CASTELLOCASTLE

castello_camporgianoDi epoca medievale.

The fortress dates from the fourteenth century, a period when the territory was under the domination of the Este, and is characterized by massive walls, with two towers form a truncated cone, and plan to form a square. At one time in the fort were a military, civilian homes and a church. The earthquake of 1920 severely damaged the structure, which was later built a private residence. It now houses the Museum of Medieval Ceramics.

In epoca romana l’isola era chiamata Planasia.

L’isola fu a più riprese popolata e successivamente completamente abbandonata.pianosa-mare600sIn Roman times it was the site of the villa of Agrippa Postumius. The island has been inhabited since prehistoric times, the oldest traces of human presence can be attributed to the Upper Paleolithic. Were also found artifacts and burials of people belonging to the Mesolithic and Neolithic period to which the settlement date is also attested to the small island Scola said. Of particular relevance are the traces of prehistoric settlements in the newly accounted for respectively Eneolithic and the Bronze Age. Eneolithic or Copper Age (IV-III millennium BC) are dating the burials in natural and artificial caves discovered in the late 800 by R. Foresi, G. Clerics, whose remains are still preserved in the museum of Reggio Emilia, more recently the discovery of a settlement of the Middle Bronze Age, which attests to the presence of the island’s northernmost feature engraved ceramic style “Apennine”, linked to trade routes Tyrrhenian half the second millennium BC. In Roman times the island was called Planas. Place of deportation, was exiled here in 6-7 AD Agrippa Posthumus, nephew and ex-heir of Augustus. Agrippa remained on the island until 14, when he was executed. Among the buildings of ancient times can be seen, among others, the ruins of a Roman villa and a system of catacombs excavated on two levels. The Roman villa, partially preserved, is precisely known by the name of Villa of Agrippa or Baths of Agrippa, named after the grandson of Augustus. The architectural style and construction techniques actually suggest that the villa was built at the end of the first century BC and abandoned during the first century AD Today you can visit the theater and the peristyle. The structures were built on top of a rocky stretch of the east coast, facing the sea, with a clear dramatic intent. At the foot of the villa are the structures submerged in the sea of the fishpond, where valuable species of fish reared for the consumption of Dominus. Other structures related to fish is enclosed by modern marina. Some underwater archaeological sites show that Pianosa was inserted into the Roman trade routes of the Mediterranean, like the other islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, which is an important crossroads in the western sectors of the navigation of the great “waterway.” Currently have been identified in two of these deposits, known Pianosa 1 and 2 Pianosa. The field was discovered by two Pianosa sport divers, including the Port of Romano Scarpa and the Rock in the north-west and is characterized by oil amphorae Dressel 20, of Spanish production (I-III century AD). Much better known and investigated in a systematic manner by the Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Tuscany is the first field Pianosa, located opposite the Rock of Scola, in the eastern island, 36 meters of depth on flat seabed, including seagrass Posidonia. The field is characterized by having more than one hundred amphorae Dressel including 1, Dressel 2-4 Hispanic production (overwhelmingly), Dressel 20, Pascual 1, Beltran 2 B and African amphorae. Difficult to determine, for now, the nature of the deposit (wreck, wrecks different exhaust port?), On which the investigations are still ongoing. In October 2006, the field has been the subject of experimental research: photogrammetric, taken with ROV (wire-guided vehicle) geo-referenced, re-collection of specimens and amphorae, determination of a kind. The funds used are derived from the European project VENUS (Virtual Exploration Underwater Sites), which brings together archaeologists, technicians automatic underwater engineering, photogrammetric computer systems research for the return in 3D. In the Middle Ages the island was long disputed between Pisa and Genoa and then in 1399 came under the dominion of Piombino. The island was inhabited several times and then completely abandoned.

ROCCAROCCA

The fort was rebuilt in 1376 by the Florentine Republic, to ensure greater protection to the castle of fields than in previous decades had been attacked several times by the enemies of Florence. The military importance of the Rock was not in the sixteenth century and was acquired by the Strozzi family here that he had many possessions, was transformed into a farm. Further changes were made in the nineteenth century and for decades between the nineteenth and twentieth century also housed the local police station. A few years ago the property passed to the State of the Rock, where the heirs have sold the last Strozzi as payment of inheritance taxes, in the face of rumors of possible speculations, the council has acted to the change of ownership in his favor, and ottenutolo after many difficulties, has for some time started a restoration of the castle complex, which will be back in a few years Campigiani available and for which we have thought of a destination museum.

PIEVE DI SANTO STEFANOPARISH CHURCH OF SANTO STEFANO

Viene rifatta la facciata e sistemate le vetrate istoriate.pieves.stefano-campibisenzioFounded in 936 probably on ancient building that some trace previous year 420. MONASTERO DI S. CRESCIMONASTERY OF S. CRESCI

The present church of San Cresci in Campi, consecrated August 17, 1911, was built on the site of one of the oldest tenth or eleventh century., Demolished some years ago because it was unsafe. The original church was small and a single aisle, with roof trusses. In this building was flanked on the left side, a similar building less ancient, longer and narrower, originally the seat of the Compagnia di S. Antonio Abate, but later became the second of the church. The two buildings are connected with a low front porch with walls covered with tombstones. This church, after church, is considered the oldest in the parish of fields.

PIEVEPARISH

Pieve_camaioreDel XII secolo.

Pieve_camaioreThe twelfth century.
